@rick: Thanks for the kudos. I've sent my slides in to the organizers this afternoon—I had to take out some materials I had only cleared for the presentation, but not for redistribution.

No, they were not just being nice, your presentation was by far the best of the conference.

Will you be putting your slides on line?

I was at your DPC08 talk Saturday and must say that you where one of the best speakers at the site..

You mention that you try to make a good balance between serious concepts and funny remarks. Good thing to keep the audience focused.. But i noticed that the balance changed during your presentation. 50% serious - 50% fun at the beginning but something like 30 - 70% nearing the end.

"At this stage, I aim for a run time of around 2/3 the period allocated for my talk (e.g.: 30 minutes for a 45-minute talk). The main reason for this is that, on the stage, I tend to speak more slowly, and that, no matter how many times I've spoken before, I am always nervous when I'm front of a large audience, and therefore I need more time to present my concepts."

I'm surprised by this. I usually find I speed up when I'm on stage and presenting. It's a conscious effort for me to maintain a sensible pace. Interesting.
